Q. What is the MSPCA-Angell Giving Day?

The MSPCA-Angell Giving Day is a 24-hour giving campaign that commemorates the day in 1868 that George Thorndike Angell, a Boston lawyer, founded the MSPCA and became its first president after reading about an instance of cruelty in which two horses—each pulling two riders over 40 miles of rough roads—were raced to death.  In less than a month, 1,200 citizens banded together to shape a new anticruelty group—the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  MSPCA-Angell Giving Day recognizes over 150 years of the MSPCA-Angell’s national and international leadership in animal protection and veterinary medicine, and celebrates the many friends, supporters, and advocates who join us in our work to relieve suffering, prevent cruelty and develop a just and compassionate society.


Q. When is it?

We will celebrate MSPCA-Angell Giving Day on March 23, 2022.


Q. What is GiveGab?

GiveGab is a nonprofit giving platform that helps nonprofits to raise money, engage donors and manager volunteers quickly and efficiently.


Q. Who can donate?

Anyone with a credit card and access to the internet can donate!


Q. Can I participate in the Giving Day if I did not adopt a pet from the MSPCA or had a pet treated at Angell Animal Medical Center?

Yes! We welcome support from all members of the community who believe in our mission of protecting animals, relieving their suffering, advancing their health and welfare, preventing cruelty, and working for a just and compassionate society.


Q. What forms of donations are accepted?

We accept credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express). 


Q. Will I receive a receipt for tax purposes?

Yes, you will automatically receive an emailed receipt acknowledging your gift.


Q. Is there a minimum gift amount?

There is a $5.00 minimum donation.


Q. Do I need to create an account with GiveGab?

No. You do not need to create an account to make a donation. The benefits of creating an account include having your tax receipts collected in one location, being able to track your donations, follow the charities you support, and engage in future volunteering and donations. Your tax receipt is emailed immediately upon processing your donation. To claim a donation as a deduction on U.S. taxes, you should retain the donation receipt as an official record.


Q. Can I make donations via a mobile device?

Yes!  Simply visit MSPCAGivingDay.org.


Q. Where does my Giving Day gift go?

Gifts to the MSPCA-Angell Giving Day will support the general purposes of the MSPCA-Angell, and allow us to address emerging and/or unanticipated needs and challenges we face as we lend our support to animals.


Q. Will my gift - if made in advance of the Giving Day - help populate the leaderboard?

Yes!  Gifts made in advance of March 23 through MSPCAGivingDay.org (and in response to Giving Day mailings) will be displayed on the leaderboard when it goes live at 12:00 a.m. on March 23, 2022.


Q. Is my payment secure?

Absolutely.  The MSPCA-Angell Giving Day is facilitated by GiveGab, a company who partners with Stripe, a PCI Service Provider Level 1 (the most stringent level of certification possible) to process all gifts made through MSPCAGivingDay.org.


Q. Can I send a gift by mail or phone?

Yes, however, due to the tight period of Giving Day, only gifts made online, by phone, or in response to Giving Day mailings count toward overall totals and competitions.  If you would like to make a gift by phone on or by March 23, please call 617-541-5011.


Q. Is my MSPCA-Angell Giving Day contribution tax-deductible?

Yes, your gift is entirely tax-deductible, and you will receive an email confirmation that may serve as your receipt for tax purposes.


Q. Does it cost anything to give through GiveGab? How much of my donation will the MSPCA-Angell receive?

There is a 4% processing fee and a 2.5% (+$.30) bank fee for donations made using all major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express).  However, you have the option to cover these costs in addition to your gift. 


Q. What if I already made a gift to the MSPCA-Angell this year?

Thank you for being part of the MSPCA-Angell family!  We appreciate your support, and welcome additional gifts of any size on March 23.  We also need your help to promote our Giving Day to others.  The Fundraiser Toolkit on the site contains sample email and social media posts to help you do this more easily.


Q. Can I help promote MSPCA-Angell Giving Day?

Please do!  We encourage you to share the images and messages located in the Fundraiser Toolkit.  Send an email, post on your Facebook, Instagram, TikTok pages, tweet, blog, and share!  It’s all encouraged and will help spread the word.


Q. Can I use my employer's matching gift funds?

Yes! We strongly encourage you to take advantage of your employer’s generosity to multiply the impact of your donation. To see if your company offers this benefit, contact your employer’s HR office.


Q. How will this donation be reported on my credit card?

Gifts made on MSPCA-Angell Giving Day through GiveGab will appear on your credit card statement as MSPCA-Angell.
